Living in Peckville, PA — A Village in Blakely Borough
First, the thing that confuses nearly every online search: Peckville is a village inside Blakely Borough, not a municipality of its own. It has no separate government. Blakely’s own municipal office sits at 1439 Main Street with a Peckville mailing address, which is exactly why the two names get tangled — and why every school, park, tax and government fact here belongs to Blakely Borough.
Blakely takes its name from the naval hero Johnston Blakely. The township was organized in 1818 and the borough was established on August 27, 1867. Today Blakely Borough holds 6,657 residents (2020 Census) across 3.81 square miles of the Lackawanna mid-valley.
Food & Drink
Electric City Roasting runs a company-owned cafe here — ECR Park, 101 Keystone Avenue. The roaster was founded in Scranton in 2003 and this is one of its own locations rather than a wholesale account. Other local names along Main Street include Old & Brew (538 Main), Coccetti’s restaurant and bakery (1124 Main), Tony’s Pizza (1137 Main), Benny’s Sports Bar (1216 Main), King’s Wok (1437 Main) and Sugar Ray’s Bakery on Sturges Road. Giff’s Ice Cream Shoppe is up the road in the Blakely section of the same borough.
Things to Do
The borough’s one distinctive landmark is the Johnston Blakeley Memorial, built around an anchor from the decommissioned aircraft carrier USS Wasp. Beyond that, Peckville trades on position rather than attractions: it sits in the middle of the mid-valley, with Scranton’s museums, theaters and restaurants a short drive south and the Dickson City retail corridor immediately to the southwest.
Outdoors & Parks
The Blakely Borough Recreation Complex sits on the bank of the Lackawanna River, and the borough runs online park reservations. Bob Mellow Park in Peckville is reached by a pedestrian bridge from the Lackawanna River Heritage Trail.
An important honest caveat on that trail: the Blakely-to-Olyphant section (miles 10.7–12.6) requires a one-mile on-road detour via West Lackawanna Avenue, a busy road with no shoulders. This stretch is not a continuous off-road path, and we would rather you hear that from us than discover it with a stroller. The Heritage Trail overall is a developing multi-section route — excellent in places, on-road in others.
The Lackawanna River itself was designated an American Heritage River in 1997.

Schools
Peckville is served by the Valley View School District, formed in the fall of 1969 from the former Archbald, Blakely and Jessup districts. It serves Archbald, Blakely and Jessup, including specifically the Peckville section of Blakely Borough and the Eynon section of Archbald. Teams play as the Cougars, with district enrollment around 2,345.
The district runs four schools — an Elementary Center (K–2), Intermediate School (3–5), Middle School (6–8) and High School (9–12). Worth knowing: the district office and campus are at 1 Columbus Drive in Archbald, not in Peckville. The Career Technology Center of Lackawanna County offers construction and mechanical trades programs to students in the region.
